Tweed Community Clubs proudly stood alongside Fred’s Place and the Vinnies Community Sleepout to help shine a light on homelessness right here in the Tweed.
Fred’s Place in Tweed Heads is a vital hub for people doing it tough — providing meals, showers, support and a welcoming face for some of the most vulnerable members of our community. The Community Sleepout brings local people together at Seagulls to experience a fraction of what so many face every night, and to raise much-needed funds and awareness.
The need is real: Fred’s Place receives no government funding, yet welcomes around 130 people sleeping rough each morning — for breakfast, laundry, showers, and visiting support services. “All the money that does come from our club grants goes directly back to the people that are doing it tough,” says Kim, St Vincent de Paul’s regional manager for the North East. Last year’s sleepout set out to raise $50,000 — and ended up raising $76,000.
Supporting initiatives like this is at the heart of what Tweed Community Clubs is about: backing the local organisations that care for our community, year after year. We’re proud to stand with Fred’s Place and everyone who took part.
